MAAS Aviation last April opened a second aircraft painting services facility at its European headquarters at Maastricht Aachen Airport.
The facility was built by market-leading spraybooth manufacturer STL who said they were delighted with the project, which will also see a doubling of aircraft arrivals to MAAS as a direct result.
Colin Pringle, Head of Department – Industrial and Aerospace at STL, said: “We were contracted to build a new hangar which would double the capacity of Maas Aviation’s work in Maastricht.
“We have done a few similar projects but all of our spraybooths are bespoke designs, determined by what the client needs. This is the first time we have worked with Maas and we are really pleased with the end result as well as meeting the deadline set.”
STL, who has further developed its control functionality to be able to give remote access for maintenance and programme adjustments, spent three months working on the facility ahead of the first plane using the booth in January.
The work enhances further STL’s reputation for meeting the diverse needs of the specialised industry’s clients including Ministry of Defence, Flybe Aviation, Airbus, BAE Systems and GE Aviation.
The project was supported by the Province of Limburg which approved regional funding of €1.2 million towards the cost of the investment.
Darragh Hall, Group Chief Executive at MAAS Aviation, said: “It gives me great pleasure to be re-investing in Maastricht Airport with the announcement of this new state of the art hangar as well as a complete upgrade of our existing facility.
“We are very grateful to the Province and all our project partners for their continued support and we look forward to the ongoing development over another 30 years of what has been a great relationship here at Maastricht.”
