Robert Stuart – Harlow

A purpose-built six-booth spray facility was installed beneath a mezzanine to increase capacity, improve coating quality, and achieve NADCAP compliance for aerospace and industrial components.

Project Overview

Industry: Metal component spraying Aerospace and Industrial

Due to increased demand for their aerospace and industrial coating services, Robert Stuart required additional production capacity within their Harlow facility. Their existing paint operation was outdated, constrained in layout, and raised concerns around quality consistency and legislative compliance.

STL was engaged to design and deliver a purpose-built spraybooth solution that would release valuable floor space, improve coating quality, and achieve NADCAP compliance, while supporting the client’s future growth plans.

The challenge

The key challenge was to maximise productivity within a restricted footprint. All spraybooths were required to be installed beneath an existing mezzanine, allowing the client to reclaim the space above for additional productive use.

The project also demanded a step change in quality, environmental control, and compliance standards, requiring a carefully engineered solution tailored to both the process and the building constraints.

A collaborative approach was fundamental to the project’s success. The client and their operatives were open to adopting new design concepts and fully engaged in understanding the long-term benefits of the proposed solution.

The solution

STL designed and installed a six-spraybooth configuration, incorporating a pressurised clean air corridor between each booth. This design prevents airborne contamination and ensures consistent, high-quality paint finishes across all processes.

The final solution exceeded the client’s initial expectations, delivering increased capacity, enhanced environmental control, and a future-proofed facility aligned with NADCAP requirements.
