Putting vehicle flow at the centre of bodyshop design

Three drive-through spraybooths positioned at the centre of a bodyshop designed around efficient vehicle flow, with the complete installation delivered within five weeks.
Putting vehicle flow at the centre of bodyshop design

Overview

This project involved the design and installation of three latest-generation drive-through spraybooths as part of a new bodyshop development.

Rather than treating the spraybooths as standalone pieces of equipment, STL worked with the customer to develop the bodyshop layout around the movement of vehicles through the facility. The three booths were positioned broadly through the centre of the bodyshop, creating a natural route through the repair and refinishing process.

The complete spraybooth installation was delivered in five weeks.

The Challenge

Installing three spraybooths within a busy bodyshop footprint required more than finding sufficient space for the equipment.

The layout needed to support an efficient progression of vehicles through the facility, while allowing for the practical requirements of each surrounding work area. The position and drive-through configuration of the booths therefore formed an important part of the overall bodyshop design.

The Solution

STL developed the bodyshop layout with the three drive-through spraybooths positioned broadly through the centre of the facility.

This created a logical route through the bodyshop, allowing vehicles to enter at one end of each booth and continue forward after refinishing, reducing unnecessary manoeuvring and helping the different working areas function together.

The equipment, access and movement of vehicles were considered as part of one layout rather than as separate elements.

Installation

All three spraybooths were installed within five weeks, requiring close coordination between the STL project and installation teams and the wider site programme.

The installation was completed to programme, delivering three fully integrated spraybooths within a relatively short timeframe for a project of this scale.

The Result

The completed bodyshop combines three latest-generation drive-through spraybooths with a layout developed around efficient day-to-day operation.

Vehicle movement was considered from the outset, resulting in a facility where the equipment and wider bodyshop layout work together as part of a considered process.

The customer was extremely pleased with both the completed installation and the way the project was delivered, providing a strong conclusion to a successful five-week installation programme.
